Vanlife in Australia: what to know before you build

1 min read

Australia is one of the best places on earth to live out of a van — and one of the most demanding. A few local realities should shape your build.

Heat and ventilation

Summers are brutal. Prioritise airflow, insulated window covers and a fridge that can keep up. Park smart and shade matters more than you’d think.

Distance and self-sufficiency

Towns can be hundreds of kilometres apart. Carry enough water and power to be genuinely off-grid for a few days — a solid water system and a portable power station go a long way.

Where you can stay

Free and low-cost camps are everywhere if you know where to look, but rules vary by council. A removable Camperbox setup keeps your van looking like a van, which helps in built-up areas.
